Annual Giving Programs

The Southwest Fund, SMSU's annual fund, exists to inspire support for the areas of greatest need on campus. By pooling together many gifts, the impact is far-reaching and significant.

When combined, all gifts to the Southwest Fund create one of the largest annual contributions to the SMSU Foundation each year--over $175,000.

Key areas of Southwest Fund support:

  • Student Scholarships

  • SMSU Faculty & Staff Special Grants Program

  • Academic Programs

  • Equipment & Technology Upgrades

  • SMSU Alumni Association

Through a multi-channel outreach effort, the Office of Annual Giving contacts a diverse group of supporters to educate and encourage them to give to the Southwest Fund. The Office of Annual Giving promotes giving to the Southwest Fund, where the majority of annual fund gifts are designated. Other "restricted" gifts can be designated for specific scholarship funds, projects and academic and co-curricular departments.

Donations received directly fund annual needs, while building ongoing support for the the long-term. Through regular communication with annual donors, major gift prospects can be identified who have the potential to make transformational gifts to SMSU.

Office of Annual Giving Campaigns:

  • Campus Drive

  • Friends & Retirees of Southwest Drive

  • Marshall Business & Community Drive

  • Parent and Family Drive

  • Graduate Gift Project

The Office of Annual Giving fiscal year coincides with the SMSU Foundation's fiscal year of July 1 to June 30.

Every gift, no matter the amount, contributes to making a difference!

Southwest Minnesota State University acknowledges the SMSU Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university.
