Farm Outlook Seminar March 10

Marshall, Minn. — Agricultural experts in several areas will be featured at the 26th annual Southwest Minnesota State University Foundation Farm Outlook Seminar on Wednesday, March 10 in the Conference Center on campus.

Scheduled to make presentations are familiar faces Jerry Gulke, Roger Wallace and Vincent Malanga, along with first-time presenter Brad Anderson.

Proceeds from the Farm Outlook Seminar go to the SMSU Foundation to fund scholarships for SMSU students in agriculture-related programs. Nearly $500,000 has been raised for scholarships over the past 25 years.

This agricultural preview is normally a sellout and those wishing to participate are asked to register by March 5. Online registration is preferred at: www.smsufoundation.org/farmseminar. Tickets are $100 per person, or $150 per couple. Tickets include lunch.

Jerry Gulke: He recently opened a consulting business as part of The Linn Group, a nationally respected consulting firm. His focus is to inform, educate and aid producers and end-users in the area of risk management using all the tools available, including futures, options, cash contracts and technical timing via price charts, as well as to develop a sound focus on the market forces that influence agriculture prices. He is an Ellendale, N.D. native.

Brad Anderson: Anderson is a Clarkfield, Minn., native who is Senior Vice President for Informa Economics and is co-executive of Informa’s Crops Group. He is primarily responsible for oilseeds, protein and vegetable oil research. He joined the company as its feed grain analyst, a position he also held with the USDA’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.

Vincent Malanga: He is President and Chief Operating Officer of LaSalle Economics Inc., a consulting firm specializing in financial market analysis and economic forecasting for industrial organizations and financial institutions. Earlier, he was affiliated with the Federal Reserve and various Wall Street investment banks.

Roger Wallace: He represents a realistic balance between analytical knowledge and real-life, on-farm experience. He was raised on a grain/livestock farm in Kansas and has a master’s in ag economics. He was one of the founders of DTN (then known as Dataline) Ag Information Service. He operates several farms in Nebraska. Wallace’s expertise is hands-on management of market price risk in livestock and grains.
